Handling Complex Civil Litigation
Civil litigation can arise in several contexts, from personal disputes to challenging business lawsuits. At Lanza & Smith, our attorneys are skilled and experienced litigators, focusing on what needs to be done to effectively resolve your case without generating unnecessary legal fees. Our firm is an economical alternative to large firms, yet we have the strength and ability to handle sophisticated litigation. Our focus is problem solving, not over-lawyering.
Experience and Excellence in Representing Our Clients
Our lawyers have 65 years of combined experience in civil litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. We get results that reflect our insistence on high quality legal service with integrity and dependability.
Both of our named partners have obtained major wins for our clients, including a $1.5 million unanimous jury trial verdict in federal court, including an award for attorney fees and costs. Our list of victories provides greater details on many successful endeavors.
We assist companies, individuals and corporate directors and officers in a variety of cases, with a specific focus on business litigation and real estate litigation. We look after your interests in arbitration, mediation, and pre-trial litigation. We will negotiate on your behalf in an attempt to obtain a favorable settlement. As a boutique litigation firm, we can take your case to trial in state or federal court, as well as pursue an appeal in the higher courts.
Lanza & Smith handles civil appeals, whether large or small, in state and federal appellate courts. In 2009, we successfully defended an appeal lasting close to three years, resulting in a $1.74 million judgment in favor of our client. Lanza & Smith was also co-counsel for plaintiff in Lee v. SCUPS, an Orange County lawsuit pursuant to which an appellate decision – entirely in favor of our client — has been published: Lee v. Southern Cal University for Professional Studies (2007) 148 Cal App 4th 782. We have handled many appeals in federal circuits, including the Court of appeal for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC, and the Ninth Circuit, including the following published decision: Harmoni v. Hume (2019) 914 F. 3d 648.
